Central Coast Population Growth: A Region on the Rise

Posted by on

The population of the Central Coast is experiencing steady growth, with the region housing an estimated 343,180 residents as of the 2021 census. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) provides regular population estimates, classifying the Central Coast as a Significant Urban Area. Population forecasts suggest that this number will rise significantly, with projections indicating the population could reach 415,050 by 2035, representing an increase of more than 20%.

The median age in the region is 43, and 4.9% of the population identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The majority of residents were born in Australia (78.9%), followed by the United Kingdom (4.6%) and New Zealand (1.7%). Despite the ABS including the Central Coast’s population within Greater Sydney for statistical purposes, the NSW government recognizes it as a distinct regional area, giving it a separate population definition. This distinction highlights the Central Coast’s growing identity as a stand-alone region, with its own unique demographic trends and development trajectory.
